Vocational Rehabilitation
The JVS Special Services Department is accredited by The
Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission and by the Maryland State Department of
Education, Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) as a provider of vocational
rehabilitation services. A team of experienced social workers, rehabilitation counselors
and specialists provides individualized vocational counseling to individuals with
disabilities. The department also serves individuals with other barriers to employment,
such as family stress or serious financial difficulties. Special Services clients have
access to the entire menu of vocational services offered by the Jewish Vocational Service.
JVS' Community Based Work Adjustment Training (CBWAT),
under the auspices of DORS, combines the best aspects of traditional job
coaching and work adjustment training. This unique program is designed to assist
individuals who have been unable to sustain employment, attitudes and behaviors. CBWAT
coordinators help these individuals identify specific vocational problems and find jobs in
their field. This program has had great success, for over ten years, enabling individuals
who had difficulty keeping jobs to become successful long-term employees.
