Benefits of a Career Center Membership
Employment Counseling & Special
Services
All Career Center clients can schedule individual meetings with an
experienced Vocational Counselor or Employment Specialist. Services are also available for
New Americans and persons with barriers to employment.
The Career Center Special Services Department is
accredited by The Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission and by the Maryland
State Department of Education, Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) as a
provider of vocational rehabilitation services. A team of experienced social workers,
rehabilitation counselors and specialists provides individualized vocational counseling to
those with disabilities. The department also serves people with other barriers to
employment, such as family stress or serious financial difficulties. Special Services
clients have access to the entire menu of vocational services offered by the Career
Center.
The Career Center's Community Based Work Adjustment Training (CBWAT),
under the auspices of DORS, combines the best aspects of traditional job
coaching and work adjustment training. This unique program is designed to assist
job-seekers who have been unable to sustain employment, attitudes and behaviors. CBWAT
coordinators help these individuals identify specific vocational problems and find jobs in
their field. This program has had great success, for over ten years, enabling people who
had difficulty keeping jobs to become successful long-term employees.
